Nurse Lucy Gallagher

 

Lucy graduated as a registered nurse in 2009 in her hometown Wellington, New Zealand and started her nursing career working in Australia and New Zealand. Lucy spent most of her early career working in the Victoria state burns unit in Melbourne and in the paediatric emergency department at Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland

Driven by her to dream venture out of the southern pacific and work in conflict affected countries, in 2015, Lucy joined the Geneva-based International Committee of the Red Cross. In the ensuing years, she worked in the Ebola response in Sierra Leone and in emergency hospitals in Iraq, South Sudan and Afghanistan. She moved to Geneva in 2022 where she lives with her husband and son.

Lucy holds a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Massey University, Wellington (NZ) and a Diploma in tropical medicine from the Tropical Institute, Amsterdam (NL). Passionate about health and mental wellbeing, she is a qualified yoga instructor and has volunteered supporting a mental health crisis hotline. In her free time, Lucy can normally be found spending time in the water and hiking mountains.
