It is recommended to have attended Saving Young Lives part 1: CPR and Emergency First Aid for Babies and Children before attending this course.
This training covers:
- A step-by-step approach to follow in a medical emergency involving your baby or child
- Calling for emergency help in Switzerland and what to say
- Seizures and febrile convulsions: what they look like and how to help your child
- Recognising and managing life-threatening bleeding and shock
- Basic wound care and the first aid for nosebleeds
- Sprains and broken bones: telling the difference; how to make an arm sling
- When to consider a spinal injury and what to do
- Head injuries: when should I worry if my child hits their head?
- Burns first aid
- Accidental poisoning: when to call the poisoning information line; when to call an ambulance
- Asthma: recognising a severe attack; understanding how to help
- Recognising serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) and learning how to use an EpiPen™
- Recognising meningitis and sepsis
- Fever fighters and painkillers: when can I use them to help my child
- First aid kit essential items and how to use them
Course fees include a triangular bandage (to make a sling) and a crepe bandage (for bandaging wounds and joints) for each participant.
