Introducing Nurse Robyn Eloise Egan, HealthFirst Trainer
Why did you become a nurse?
First, I am the eldest of three sisters, so naturally, I have always taken on a caring role. I became a nurse because I wanted a career that lets me make a real difference while also giving me the freedom to travel. Nursing combines compassion with critical thinking, and it has allowed me to meet and learn from many different people and cultures. I like that no day is the same! The ability to help others, no matter where I am, makes it all worthwhile.
Where has your career taken you so far?
My nursing career has taken me across the world, from hospitals in New Zealand to the mountains of Switzerland. I’ve worked in community nursing, school nursing, provided care in remote locations, and even served as a vaccinator during the pandemic. Each experience has broadened my skills and allowed me to learn from diverse people and healthcare systems, which has been incredibly rewarding.
What do you do when you are not working?
When I’m not working, I am a creative — whether it’s sewing, making something new, or making music. I also love being outdoors, especially in the summertime, and one of my favorite things is hiking in Switzerland. There’s nothing better than exploring the mountains and taking in the incredible views.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Disney movies! I love them and their songs so much. No matter my age I’ll always sit down and watch a Disney movie.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I’d tell my younger self to be open to every opportunity and not be afraid to step outside of my comfort zone. Some of the most rewarding experiences in my career and life have come from taking chances — whether that was moving to a new country, trying a new role, or embracing an unexpected challenge. Trust yourself, keep learning, and enjoy the process.
