Meet the Team – Nurse Scarlett Brannigan

27th April 2026

Why did you become a nurse?

Whilst studying Law, I became passionate about International Human Rights and Healthcare. After my first volunteering position in Zambia, I realised I wanted to gain clinical skills to work closer to and understand patients’ needs and the politics of medicine in practice.

Where has your career taken you so far?

I adored my first job in London working at Great Ormond Street. Every day was different. My colleagues were incredible, and the children and families showed me profound determination and gratitude for life, even amid unimaginable challenges. I also contributed to the Ethics Committee, giving me an understanding of how decisions are made in complex relationships, balancing cultural and medical complexities to journey towards compassionate care. The complex, open discussions within the Committee of experts have shaped the way I approach and communicate in my professional career. I am also incredibly grateful for the work I have been able to do representing Médecins Sans Frontières in Nigeria and London during the pandemic. These projects reminded me of the duty we have to advocate for neglected diseases and marginalised patients we care for both abroad and at home.

What do you do when you are not working?

I adore practising and teaching yoga, mindfulness, and movement and truly believe in its necessity in modern-day life. I love being in the mountains, skiing, touring, hiking, and swimming in Alpine lakes! I really hope to enhance my mountain skills in alpinism and mountain medicine in the future. I love spending months by the sea in our camper van and chasing waves with friendly locals. I like to cook and host friends as much as curling up by the fire and getting lost in a book.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Dark chocolate and interior shorts on YouTube! I love art, colour, textiles, and design! Or adventure shorts with mountains I could never ski or waves I could never catch!

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Life’s a beautiful journey. Enjoy it, don’t rush it and savour every minute!
