C Is For Chest Compressions

14th October 2011

At HealthFirst, we continually update the content of our courses according to the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) guidelines. This organisation fosters the production, collation and dissemination of evidence based information on the best resuscitation practices round the world.

One of the emerging facts is that starting good, effective chest compressions as early as possible after a cardiac arrest, increases the survival rates of that person. This is true whether or not rescue breaths are given or not. In response to this evidence, the Swiss Resuscitation Council, now recommends that chest compressions are started straight away, before any rescue breaths are given.

Learn how to do this on a recognised First Aid course on life-sized, realistic manikins to be sure of being able to best help someone whose heart has stopped.
