Meet the Team – Nurse Lizzy O’Connor

2nd March 2026

Why did you become a nurse?

My mam was a nurse and I used to love listening to her stories about it. I think I was so impressed with those tales and skills that I thought, “I wanna do that too!”

Where has your career taken you so far?

I stayed where I trained for 8 years in the Newcastle hospitals before taking a trip to India, where I spent a few months working in a hospice for people with HIV and AIDS. After that, I headed to ‘the big smoke’ and worked in a variety of roles around London for many years (my favourite being part of the plastics trauma team at the Royal London).

What do you do when you are not working?

Top of the list has to be music. I played and sang in various bands during my time in London and really miss that. I’m determined to find the music scene in Zurich and get playing again. Otherwise, I love to draw, read, and go hiking in my spare time.

What is your guilty pleasure?

90’s dance music.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Be true to yourself and proud of who you are. The world is your oyster.
